Managing the Deal Team

What is the Deal Team?

The Deal Team allows you to keep stock of the people associated with Deal processes both within your firm and externally. This could include members of your team who are managing the deal, intermediaries who sourced the deal and/or are advising on the deal, founders and executives from the target companies, industry experts and other advisors.

You can see the deal team from the “Deal Team” section on the bottom of any Deal page.

What is the difference between internal and external deal team members?

Internal Deal Team members are members of your firm who are associated with a specific Deal. You can see these by clicking into the ‘Internal” tab from the Deal Team section.

External Deal Team members (sometimes referred to as “Deal Contacts”) are any external parties that are associated with a deal process. You can see these by clicking into the ‘External” tab from the Deal Team section.

Does Navatar suggest Deal Team members for me?

There are some cases where Navatar can pick up on contacts that should be on the Deal Team for certain deals. When you are entering notes for a meeting, and you have both a deal and any contacts tagged to the meeting, Navatar will suggest that you add those contacts to that deal.

Use the checkboxes on the right to select which contacts you’d like to tag to the deal, and then click the “add” button to add those contacts to the deal.

What if I want to add someone to the Deal Team that is a member of my firm, but does not have a Navatar account?

There may be times when you want to add an internal Team Member to a deal who does not have a Navatar account. However, the Internal Deal team section will only allow you to attach users that have a Navatar account.

Thus, any team members that do not have Navatar accounts will need to be entered in the external section. You can do this by setting up a firm in the system that represents your firm, and creating contacts attached to this firm for any team members that do not have Navatar accounts.

Though these team members will not show up in the “internal” section, you will still be able to report on the deals that they have been associated with via the external connection.

How can I see who knows a Deal Contact?

From the “external” tab of the Deal Team section on any deal page, you will be able to see all the external contacts that have been associated with this deal. If you click on the person icon to the left of the contact name, the system will show you all of the internal and external connections that this contact has had with other people in Navatar. This is a great place to see “who knows who” within your network.

How can I review recent interactions with a Deal Contact?

From the “external” tab of the Deal Team section on any deal page, you will be able to see all the external contacts that have been associated with this deal. On the right side of this section, you will see 3 columns that summarize the interactions attached to these contacts.

The first column shows you how many deals this contact has been on the deal team of in your system, the second shows you how many meetings in the system this contact has been on, and the third shows how many emails in the system this contact has been on. The records in this section are sorted by this column, and you can click on these numbers to view the interactions.
